Bespoke Metal Gates in London
Gate Types
Gates we make
Most gates fall into one of these. If yours does not, it is still worth asking — the answer is usually yes.
- 01
Driveway Gates
Single or double leaf, side-hung or sliding, made to the measured opening between your piers or walls. Built with automation in mind if that is part of the plan.
- 02
Pedestrian Gates
Front entrance and path gates, sized to the opening and hung so they still close properly on ground that is rarely level.
- 03
Garden Gates
Gates for garden walls, rear access and boundary lines, matched to existing railings or fencing where there is something to work to.
- 04
Side & Access Gates
Full-height gates closing a side passage between properties, usually with a concealed latch and a frame fixed into the brickwork on both sides.
- 05
Traditional & Wrought Iron Style
Scrollwork, finials and period detailing, fabricated in steel and finished to suit a period frontage or a conservation area setting.
- 06
Contemporary Gates
Flat bar, box section and slatted infills for a cleaner line — often the right answer on a modern extension or a recently refurbished frontage.

What can be changed
A bespoke gate is a set of decisions rather than a product code. These are the ones that matter.
- Infill
- Vertical bar, flat bar, slatted, mesh-backed or partly solid for privacy.
- Height & proportion
- Set against the piers, boundary wall and the building behind, rather than a catalogue size.
- Bar spacing
- Adjusted where children or pets are a consideration, and to suit the look you want.
- Top detail
- Flat, arched, raked, with or without finials or a decorative head.
- Hanging
- Side-hung or sliding, opening in or out, checked against the driveway fall and kerb.
- Automation
- Weight, hinge positions and cable routes designed in, whether automation is fitted now or later.

Materials & Finishes
Built to stand up to a London frontage
Finish matters more than most people expect. A gate on a road-facing boundary takes rain, traffic film and salt all year.
- Materials
- Mild steel box section and flat bar
- Solid square and round bar infill
- Steel sheet and perforated infill panels
- Protection
- Hot dip galvanising for external gates
- Primed and painted where galvanising is not appropriate
- Finish
- Polyester powder coating in matt, satin or gloss
- Any RAL colour — matt near-black and graphite are the most common
- Ironmongery
- Hinges, latches, drop bolts and locks specified to suit the gate
- Provision for automation where required

FAQ
Metal gates — common questions
If your question is not here, ask us directly. It is usually a two-minute conversation.
Are your gates made to measure?
Yes. Every gate is made to the measured opening rather than cut down from a stock size, which is why openings between existing piers, walls or uneven ground can be dealt with properly.
Can the gates be automated?
Gates can be designed and built with automation in mind, including the weight, hinge positions and cable routes. Tell us at the quote stage whether automation is planned now or later so the gate is built for it.
What is the difference between wrought iron and steel gates?
Most gates described as wrought iron today are made from mild steel worked in a traditional style. We fabricate in steel, which can be made to look traditional or contemporary depending on the design.
Do you install the gates as well as make them?
Yes. Fabrication and installation are handled as one job, so there is no separate fitter to arrange and no gap in responsibility between making and fitting.
Do I need planning permission for a gate?
Often not, but it depends on the height, whether the property is listed and whether it is in a conservation area. Your local planning authority is the definitive source — it is worth checking before a design is finalised.
Which areas do you cover for gates?
All of London plus roughly 20 miles around it. If you are not sure whether your address falls inside that, send us your postcode and we will tell you.
